Cómo usar el corpus del español
El Dr. Mark Davies, de la Universidad Brigham Young, recientemente entrevistado por ElCastellano.org, detalla a nuestros lectores las nuevas posibilidades que el corpus del espanol ofrece a los investigadores de la lengua: búsquedas combinadas, palabras que acompañan un sustantivo, búsquedas por flexiones verbales (verbos conjugados), por flexiones nominales (género y número) y por época de uso, desde el siglo XIII, entre muchas otras alternativas que ofrece este depósito de cien millones de palabras clasificadas. Algunas recomendaciones para mantener a los miembros de nuestro equipo bien motivados y alcanzar resultados extraordinarios
- Celebra reuniones frecuentes con tu equipo para evaluar su nivel de satisfacción con la manera en que se están haciendo las cosas.
- Trata a los miembros de tu equipo con gran respeto y demuéstrales tu aprecio y valoración.
- Siempre recuérdales la trascendencia e importancia de su trabajo para que se sientan orgullosos de lo que hacen.
- Da el ejemplo y demuéstrales con palabras y con hechos que eres un líder confiable.
- Invierte tiempo en establecer y fortalecer los vínculos interpersonales.
Evita supervisarlos en exceso y confía en sus capacidades para enfrentar cualquier desafío. - Ocúpate de que conozcan bien sus atribuciones y las asuman con orgullo y entusiasmo. Evita recurrir a tu autoridad y tu poder para que actúen.
Invierte en ellos. - Dales oportunidades para que pongan a prueba su talento.

Curiosidades del oficio de traductor
La mayor parte de los errores que los traductores cometen al traducir se deben a la falta de dominio de la lengua materna.
90 por ciento de la profesión es el idioma de destino.
Hasta los mejores escritores se equivocan y tienen dificultades al usar el idioma.
La mayoría de las noticias mundiales son redactadas en inglés y al ser traducidas, tal vez rápida y erradamente, contribuyen al uso cada vez mayor de anglicismos.
Los casos en que no existe un equivalente en la otra lengua son extremadamente raros.

Pushkin's Post-horses.
A Conference on Literary Translation in Russian Culture
14-15 April 2008 at the University of Exeter, Devon, UK
In 1830 Pushkin described literary translators as the 'post-horses of enlightenment' - an image of unacknowledged toilers in the service of bringing to Russia education and culture from the rest of the world. Translation has consistently provided a channel for the introduction to Russia of new ideas and trends in literature and the arts. In Russia, translators have pursued their profession for myriad reasons: from a belief in the transformation and westernisation of Russian culture, to an avoidance of the overtly political agenda of Soviet literary publishing, to the market incentives provided by translating potboilers and pulp fiction in post-Soviet Russia. This conference will examine the position and significance of translation and translators across Russian and Soviet history. Topics might concern but are not confined to the following areas:
The impact of translation on Russian literature in any period
The politics of translation within Russia and/or the USSR
Theories of translation in Russia
Translation and censorship
Translation from a particular language or region into Russian
Individual translators' lives and work

The American Translation and Interpreting Studies Association (ATISA) invites you to attend the fourth ATISA Conference, “Meeting at the Border: Profile of the Language Mediator.”
The conference will be held at the University of Texas at El Paso April 3-5, 2008.
ATISA encourages, supports, and furthers the study of translation and interpreting studies by disseminating knowledge and research relevant to all areas of language mediation, specifically translation and interpreting, regardless of discipline. "Translation and interpreting studies" here means the study of all forms of communication between languages, including translation, interpreting, localization, bilingual text revision, cross-cultural communication, and the various specializations, tools, and technologies involved in such activities. Presentations focusing on the act of communicating between human languages from a wide range of disciplines and methodologies, including translation studies, interpretation studies, applied linguistics, cognitive science, cultural studies, ethnology, sociology, anthropology, education, and other social sciences are welcomed. Presentations must follow the standards of scholarship of their respective disciplines, and they must show the connection of their work to translation and interpreting studies.
ATISA IV will be held in the world's largest binational, bicultural, and bilingual metropolitan areas, El Paso-Cd. Juárez. It is an ideal location for the dissemination of information on intercultural communication. You will have the opportunity to network with translation and interpreting scholars and educators from the Borderlands, Texas, and from across the nation and world.
