La creciente investigación en traducción en América Latina y sobre el quehacer traductivo en América Latina ha jugado un papel importante en la consolidación de la disciplina en nuestro ámbito y en el reconocimiento de la labor de escritores-traductores que habían permanecido invisibilizados por diversas razones. Esa investigación se hace no sólo desde América Latina, investigadores de diversos países comienzan a interesarse en lo que hacemos.
Por otra parte, América Latina se ha preocupado también por estudiar la traducción europea y norteamericana. Desde el exilio forzado o auto-impuesto, escritores y pensadores latinoamericanos instalados en otros continentes se han dedicado a la labor traductiva y a estudiar el fenómeno traductivo desde épocas pasadas en Europa, dando a conocer fuera de América Latina el trabajo que aquí se hace.
